How to improve Wellington’s struggling bus network

As a public service city, Wellington commuters fly the flag for the public transport bus use. \
\
Wellingtonians use the bus to get to work at four times the national rate, with 17.3% of people swiping a Snapper card both morning and night, according to Stats NZ data from 2019. \
\
But for many, that is in spite of, not because of, the quality of the bus network. \

The bustastrophe of 2018 lingers long in the mind. But Wellington’s bus service has since plumbed even lower depths – bus reliability is currently at an all-time low, with more than 2600 cancelled bus trips in May, amounting to 3.9% of all journeys.
