Melbourne has been named by Time Out magazine as the fourth-best city on earth this year.
While Melbourne was only ranked 20th in 2024, it has rocketed back into the top four in Time Out’s best cities list for 2025.
Chris Cincotta, who runs a popular Instagram page celebrating Melbourne, told Heidi Murphy he was surprised by some of the categories in which the city ranked highly.

Melbourne is a fantastic International city full of European designed buildings and incredible restaurants, food, coffee, culture and art. Throughout the year Melbourne has amazing events like the Australian Open Tennis, The Formula One Grand Prix, The AFL Season, The Cricket with the Boxing Day Test and Internationals, the world famous Spring Racing Carnival, and the Australian International Air Show to mention but a few.
Outside Melbourne you have wonderful day trips, wineries some of the best in the world and culture all at your doorstep, it is no surprise visitors just love the city.

It is a great place to live and work and this is why it has become Australia’s largest and most populated city, makes perfect sense to me.
Melbourne is great to live in and enjoy but we have some aspects to address like the crime rates and African gangs and the reliability of public transport. Trains should run for longer hours and V/Line needs to get their act together.
Brad I agree sometime v/line service are woeful like last Sunday they made the people going to Swan Hill go by a 3 car Volcity and Bus to Swan Hill at very short notice due to rolling stock shortages which is cramped as heck with no food or drink in place of loco haul….with a buffet first thing in the morning during the busy Open Day Tennis period!!!
But it take leaders with intergity and vision…..but some people voted for it! but thanks some people indifference to issue that are not personally affecting them, it has turn around and bit most people in the rear taxed to hilt and soft on crime etc.
