A Pacific National freight train with three locomotives and 56 wagons was travelling from Brisbane to Sydney on May 31, 2022, when an empty wagon’s undercarriage, or bogie, was derailed near Kyogle.
Freight operator Pacific National is reportedly resisting a right to disconnect case that would stop it from calling staff after hours about their next shift.
No-one was injured during the derailment but the incident means a crucial section of the railway line is expected to be out of service until Saturday evening.
Last evening trains were halted due to evacuations around Maroona (the fire did not get anywhere near the rail line) leaving several freight trains stranded on the line.
