Ban Heavy Vehicles from Racecourse Road, Flemington

Living in Flemington, VIC, our daily life is significantly disrupted by the incessant noise, pollution, and the continuous accidents caused by heavy trucks navigating through Racecourse Road. These vehicles not only pose a severe safety hazard but have also made the streets less livable for residents like myself, as well as for local businesses, cafes, and shops who are struggling due to the diminishing appeal of the area.

The most alarming issue is their frequent collisions with the rail bridge, leading to severe traffic disruptions that affect thousands of commuters. Each incident not only impacts people’s daily routines but also incurs substantial repair costs. Despite numerous warnings, the incidents have not ceased, pointing towards an urgent need for decisive actions.

According to local news reports, the financial damage from these accidents adds up to tens of thousands of dollars, money which could be better invested in community projects or infrastructure improvement rather than repairs. Additionally, the heavy vehicles exacerbate air and noise pollution, making our living environment uncomfortable and unhealthy. Statistics from environmental studies indicate that heavy trucks contribute significantly more pollutants compared to smaller vehicles.

It’s essential to protect our roads, our environment, and our quality of life. We need to restrict heavy vehicles and trucks from using Racecourse Road immediately to prevent further damage and danger.

I urge the local authorities and the Moonee Valley City Council to consider implementing a ban on these heavy vehicles. Alternatives such as rerouting them through appropriate bypass routes or designated truck pathways are viable solutions that would preserve the character and safety of Flemington.

Please sign this petition to support creating safer streets and maintaining the charm and livability of our community.
