A tram has derailed and slammed into a building in the heart of Milan, killing two people and injuring around 40 others. The incident on Friday, local time, came as the Italian business capital hosted its seasonal fashion shows and was in the interim between hosting the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games.
Absolutely heart-wrenching news. To think people were just going about their day in Milan when this happened. The accident occurred while Milan was exceptionally busy, hosting International Fashion Week and having just concluded the Winter Olympics.
There are just 2 reasons possible. Either a medical emergency of the tram driver or else a technical failure with the brakes. Just before that turn into Via Lazaretto is a station where the tram should have stopped.
It didn’t stop but instead went through with full speed and then moved into that turn.
