Prevent Demolition of Colac Railway Station, Advocate for its Restoration

For generations, the Colac Railway Station has stood as a timeless piece of our community’s history. Built in 1870, it carries significant historical value for the area and the people who call it home. Now, this important landmark faces the threat of demolition, which will strip our region of a piece of its identity.

Colac railway station is a regional railway station on the Warrnambool line, part of the Victorian railway network. It serves the town of the same name, in Victoria, Australia, and was opened on 27 July 1877

As a community rooted deeply in heritage, we are deeply affected by this impending action. Not only will we lose a connection to our past, but also a potential resource. The re-opening of the refreshment room, for instance, can serve as a gathering place for locals and tourists alike, fostering culture, conversation, and commerce.

Data from the National Trust demonstrates the positive impact such historical restorations make on communities, both from a socio-cultural and economic standpoint. Historical landmarks preservation increases tourism, creates jobs, contributes to local economies, and preserves a community’s unique character.

We urge local authorities, preservation societies, and community members to band together to save the Colac Railway Station from demolition. Instead, restore it to its original condition, bringing back a piece of our history, and ensuring its utility for generations to come.
