Off the buses: Hamilton patronage plunges

Hamilton bus use has plunged by as much as 40% in a year in parts of the city as persistent driver shortages bite.

Citywide, the Comet and Orbiter routes have held steady, but remaining routes have on average dropped by 25%, when comparing the second quarter of 2021 against 2022.

That puts those routes down almost 40% on average on pre-Covid levels as Waikato Regional Council, which is responsible for the services, grapples for solutions.
