Palmerston North bus subsidy could be in jeopardy

The future of Palmerston North’s new all-electric bus service has been thrown into doubt with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi suggesting it might not continue to subsidise the improvements introduced in March.

In a letter from agency chief executive Nicole Rosie, Horizons Regional Council was told the service was not considered eligible to be treated as a “continuous” one for which a 51% subsidy would automatically be supported.

Instead, Horizons was being advised to submit a bid to the agency’s over-subscribed “improvements” fund.
