Bikes could be allowed back on the front of urban buses during daylight hours from Monday, after they were banned last year for blocking bus headlights.
But Christchurch riders haven’t yet had the go-ahead to hitch up their cycles.
New Zealand’s director of land transport issued the daytime exemption on Thursday, after outlawing them from bike racks, such as those on Christchurch buses, in November.
The nationwide ban followed concerns last year that cycle wheels, particularly if rotating, threw shadows onto the road.
