RBF launches Winter Wellness Initiative to help rail staff tackle energy costs

As national debt charities report a staggering influx of calls from individuals struggling with unmanageable finances, Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) has announced the launch of its Winter Wellness Essentials pack. This initiative is specifically designed to support the railway community as they navigate the rising costs of heating their homes during these challenging months.

The first weeks of January traditionally mark the busiest season for financial helplines, but 2026 has seen a significant spike in demand. Recognising that railway workers are not immune to these national trends, RBF is focusing on the reality of life at home.

The Winter Wellness Essentials pack provides practical, domestic essentials, such as high-quality blankets and energy-efficient items, to help ease the burden of rising bills, particularly for those who may feel more vulnerable during this period.

“The data from organisations like StepChange and Money Wellness confirms what we have been feeling, many are worried about their financial situations ” said Ryan Morgan, head of Support Services at Railway Benefit Fund.

“We want to provide tangible support so that keeping a home warm doesn’t become another source of anxiety. This is about practical care for the people who keep the railways running.”

The RBF aims to ensure this support reaches those who need it most.

Members of the railway community who are feeling the pressure of rising domestic costs are encouraged to apply today to see if they are eligible for the pack at https://www.railwaybenefitfund.org.uk/winter-wellness-essentials/.
