Network Rail is encouraging day trippers and holidaymakers to choose the train for their journeys over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of this month.
Train operator South Western Railway (SWR) and Network Rail Wessex (NR Wessex) have begun cracking down on ‘short-faring’, which involves passengers paying for a ticket only for part of their journey rather than for the full distance they travel.
As announced in February, London Charing Cross and Waterloo East have now closed for 22 days while engineers carry out work on the track and in the stations.
