ASCO wins big North Sea services contract

Logistics and supply company ASCO (Aberdeen Service Company) has secured a landmark nine-figure contract with an undisclosed North Sea energy operator. There’s no official word, but WorldCargo News has seen comments suggesting Spanish energy company Repsol is the client. Regardless, ASCO says the deal helps reinforce its position as the leading logistics provider to the energy industry.

The five-year contract, worth approximately GB£150 million, is effective from 1 July 2025. The contract win comes at a time when the offshore energy sector is under pressure to reconfigure and move away from fossil fuels. The scope encompasses ASCO’s full suite of integrated logistics services, including quayside operations, warehousing, materials management, marine gas oil, environmental services, aviation, customs, freight forwarding and ships agency. Work will involve the company’s operational base north of Aberdeen, in Peterhead.

Complex offshore operations

Government and environmental pressures are conspiring against the development of the traditional North Sea oil and gas industries. In fact, Aberdeen has been named as the headquarters location for a publicly backed green energy company. However, ASCO claims to be riding the choppy waters, and this award, says the company, represents a major milestone for ASCO. They say it marks one of the largest and most comprehensive logistics contracts in its recent history. “It underscores industry confidence in ASCO’s proven ability to deliver mission-critical support for complex offshore operations in one of the world’s most demanding energy environments,” said a company statement.

“This is a transformational contract for ASCO, both in scale and strategic importance,” explained Mike Pettigrew, ASCO’s chief executive. “It validates our deep expertise in the North Sea, where we have been operating for almost 60 years, and our ability to deliver end-to-end logistics solutions that are safe, efficient and resilient.” The announcement comes on the heels of development plans further up the coast at Cromarty, as Scotland transitions towards renewable energy from the North Sea.

Developmental for the company

This latest award builds on a series of strategic wins in the North Sea, with long-term contracts secured in the UK and Norway in 2025 alone exceeding £450 million in value. It also reflects a broader industry trend toward integrated logistics solutions that streamline operations and improve efficiency, in response to a tougher market.

ASCO operates throughout the logistics and supply chain management sector. It primarily serves the global energy sector. Since founding in 1967, ASCO is best known for its role in supporting offshore oil and gas operations in the North Sea. It operates key logistics hubs, quayside services, warehousing, waste management, and supply base operations from its main base in Peterhead and locations in Aberdeen in the North of Scotland. Peterhead is the locus of efforts to establish a new mixed traffic rail link, which backers insist should have freight facilities commensurate with the potential traffic in the area, as reported recently by RailFreight.com.

For their part, ASCO is preoccupied with its own development. “We’re increasingly being recognised as a trusted partner in the global energy supply chain,” added Mike Pettigrew. “[We] are proud to play such a pivotal role in enabling safe and efficient offshore activity, while continuing to lead the way in supply chain transformation.”
