Read more below about the major planned disruptions coming up this winter in inner, west, north, east and south east Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Inner Melbourne
Crews will make the most of the quieter July school holidays to remove temporary tracks and rail infrastructure in Kensington and replace it with new permanent tracks near the entrance of the Metro Tunnel, with disruptions to Metro Tunnel train services from Tuesday 7 July to Sunday 12 July.
To allow crews to reinstate the road and kerbs near the Metro Tunnel work site at Fed Square, Flinders Street will be closed to westbound traffic between Russell Street and Swanston Street/St Kilda Road from Thursday 6 August to Tuesday 11 August.
Melbourne’s west
Important maintenance work near Armadale Station over 2 weekends in June will mean changes to services on the Sunbury Line.
While crews finish building the new road bridge over the rail line at Ferris Road and continue work to build the new Melton Station, Ferris Road will be closed to traffic from 23 June to 15 July.
Melbourne’s north
Buses will replace trains at various times on the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines, while maintenance and renewal work takes place over winter.
Melbourne’s east and south east
The Armadale Station maintenance will also impact Cranbourne, Pakenham and Frankston lines over the same 2 weekends in June.
Buses will also replace trains on part of the Belgrave Line for a week in late July, while crews ramp up work to upgrade Boronia Station, set to reopen to passengers in spring.
Major construction is underway on Suburban Rail Loop East from Cheltenham to Box Hill. There will be lane closures at the intersection of Whitehorse Road and Station Street in Box Hill as demolition works begin to prepare for the construction of the new SRL station.
Sections of the Eastern Freeway will have weekend closures to continue asphalting and to lift beams over the freeway for the interchange ramps that will connect to the North East Link’s 6.5km tunnels. The Eastern Freeway will be closed between Chandler Highway and Tram Road from 10pm, Friday 19 June to 5am, Monday 22 June, with further monthly weekend closures to be confirmed closer to the time.
