Comparing the world’s largest air force fleets is something of a fool’s errand owing to the many complexities, false impressions, and wrong takeaways from just comparing numbers. However, statistics are still one metric (among many) to gauge an air force’s strength. With recent reports of the size of the Chinese Air Force(s) about to overtake the United States Air Force, this article will attempt to add a little more context to the debate.

While the US President’s flagship executive transport comprises a pair of modified Boeing 747s, other countries have opted for smaller jets – though still large relative to other nations.
