New cost blowouts on the West Gate Tunnel are set to top $1.5bn, taking the problem-plagued toll road’s final price to almost twice its original $6.3bn.
The project was completed flawed from the beginning/conception and only designed to ensure maximising profits for Transurban, Victorian’s will not benefit from this project.
The project seeks to drive 50,000 additional cars into the centre of Melbourne when the Melbourne City Council and other fringe councils are narrowing roads and pushing cars out of the city. It is simply not required and as per the findings should never have been built.
Former Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas was found to be holding shares in Transurban at the time of the project awarding.
There should be a substantial court case against the company who quoted the price to the taxpayer and also to the external law firm who represented the taxpayer through the government.
Would have to be one of the worst projects the state has ever undertaken. Victoria has stuffed about with this crap that should never have been funded and now with a business case clearly showing massive loses to the community we have all been hoodwinked.
Many spoke out on how stupid this project was and has been built on borrowed money in Victoria. So many other projects could have been undertaken if this had not gone ahead and many said it should not.
Agree we never needed the Westgate tunnel and especially not at the price and is $13b the end of it?
Labor has wasted $50b in project overruns. That is not a long term issue that is systemic rorting of government contracts.
