5 Fast Facts On The US Navy’s Fighter Squadrons

The US Navy is arguably the second-most potent air force in the world after the US Air Force (at least if the Marine Corps aviation is included). The US Navy operates five types of combat aircraft – the F/A-18 Super Hornet (the Navy has retired its Hornets), the F-35C, the EA-18G Growler (EW fighter based on F/A-18), the MH-60R “Romeo” Seahawk helicopter, and the MH-60S “Sierra” Seahawk helicopter (the CH-53E Super Stallion can also carry out counter-mine missions). The Navy also operates other aircraft, like the E-2 Hawkeye, while the Marines also operate F-35Bs, F/A-18 Hornets, and AV-8B Harrier IIs (being retired over the next few years).
