Santa brings Christmas cheer to Northern’s trains

Last weekend, Christmas came early on some train services in the north of England run by train operator Northern.

In common with other train operators, from Sunday, 18th May 2025, Northern will introduce a new timetable for its train services.

Northern has told its conductors working on the new Northumberland Line how to pronounce the name of Newsham station.

It has been confirmed that Newsham station on The Northumberland Line will open on Monday, 17th March.

In the first month since the Northumberland Line re-opened for passenger services, it has been used for over 50,000 passenger journeys.

Ahead of services starting on the new Northumberland Line on15 December, Northern has released time-lapse footage recorded from one of its trains.

Historic equipment from the Northumberland Line that were originally set to be sold for scrap have been saved by some Northumberland enthusiasts.
