Major ASX-listed data centre company NextDC has seen its share price fall more than 40 per cent in just 30 minutes this morning after a major backlash against one of its facilities in suburban Melbourne.
In an announcement to the market today, NextDC slashed its full-year earnings guidance by more than a third following delays connecting the M3 Melbourne data centre, dubbed “Mordor” by frustrated locals, to power networks.
Twenty-two-metre high power poles and a constant, eerie humming noise have been a bugbear for Footscray residents and those in surrounding areas, leading to protests and outcry from locals.
NextDC, Australia’s largest data centre developer, froze the trading of its shares on Friday as it worked to update on the financial ramifications of energy connection delays at the data centre in West Footscray, on the outskirts of the Melbourne CBD.
