New South Wales South Coast passengers are welcoming more frequent trains but questioning changes that will make airport trips less direct under a major timetable revamp.
From November 15, commuters will gain more than 200 additional weekly services, but trains will bypass Wolli Creek and terminate at Central instead of continuing to Bondi Junction.
Peak services between Wollongong and Sydney will increase from three to four trains an hour, while off-peak and weekend services will double to every 30 minutes on average
For airport passengers, the loss of the Wolli Creek stop means changing at Sutherland or Hurstville, then again at Wolli Creek or travelling into Central and catching an airport train back out.
Michael Caruana, who was catching the train to the airport for a Melbourne holiday, said the changes would complicate the journey.
“There’s just too many moving parts, especially if you are carrying luggage or maybe you’ve got a family that you want to take on a holiday,” he said.
“It is what it is. I guess you just have to roll with the punches.”
