This week at the annual InnoTrans exhibition, Siemens Mobility showcased the new Inspiro London Piccadilly line train.
Following addresses from Siemens Mobility Chief Executive Officer Michael Peter, Transport for London Commissioner Andy Lord, and Aglaja Schneider, Joint CEO of Siemens Mobility UK&I, attendees were invited aboard the 113-metre-long, nine-car train for a guided tour to provide a first-hand look at the innovative features and passenger-focused enhancements designed for London’s future Piccadilly line journeys.
Andy Lord said: “These new trains will fundamentally change the experience of travelling on the Piccadilly line when they start entering service.
“They will become one of the first things an international visitor will experience when they come to London, be it through Heathrow or St Pancras International, and will be more energy efficient and spacious, provide CCTV and air conditioning and give customers better information during their journeys. Journeys will be more accessible, safer and faster, and the experience for our customers will be transformed.”
The new Piccadilly line trains have been designed to transform the passenger experience with air-conditioning, walk-through carriages, enhanced accessibility, onboard CCTV and improved onboard digital information systems. The trains will also be more reliable, increase capacity by 10% and consume 20% less energy than the existing fleet. The trains will be digitally connected via our Railigent platform, meaning trains will be able to send live location data and live component health data to TfL’s depots, enabling predictive maintenance.

Having been part of this programme earlier in its development as the project director, it’s fantastic to see how far the project has come and to share that progress with the wider rail industry.”

Alongside the train, Siemens Mobility showcased its portfolio of digitally connected rail solutions, including Railigent X, Signaling X, and Mobility Software Suite X. Powered by Siemens Xcelerator, these technologies help operators optimise performance, improve reliability and make better use of rail infrastructure, supporting the delivery of a more efficient and sustainable railway.
