Australian thermal energy storage firm 1414 Degrees has inked a non-binding heads of agreement with an unnamed data centre developer to build an up to 1GW AI project near Port Augusta, South Australia. The phased development will kick off with a 17MW campus powered by existing grid connections, onsite solar, and battery storage.

- Phased Rollout – Initial 17MW campus via existing 33kV connection, expanding to 200MW anchor campus after a 275kV transmission upgrade, with a long-term path to gigawatt scale.
- Strategic Location – The 1,580-hectare Aurora Precinct offers the unnamed operator exclusivity over a 40-hectare parcel while definitive agreements are negotiated.
- Renewable Backbone – Site supports up to 900MW solar generation and an approved 140MW/280MWh BESS, aligning with AI’s growing power demands.
- Tech Integration – 1414 Degrees brings silicon-based thermal storage (SiBox, SiBrick, SiNTL) to complement solar and battery systems on site.
