New premier Ben Carroll arrives for question time in parliament, and Opposition Leader Jess Wilson wastes no time in attacking his integrity.
“Only last month, [Ben Carroll] said: ‘I’ve got a young daughter at home and I couldn’t be more proud to make sure she grows up knowing I supported Jacinta Allan.’ How can Victorians possibly believe this premier can act with integrity when governing Victoria, when he can’t even be honest with his own daughter?” Ms Wilson says.
There are immediate calls for order from the speaker Maree Edwards, as MPs shout over the top of each other. After some back and forth, the question is allowed and Mr Carroll responds:
“A group of my colleagues approached me yesterday and [told] me that the premier had lost the support of the caucus. So there had been a change in circumstances,” he says.
This brings about groans from Liberal MPs, and Ms Edwards calls for order. Ms Wilson repeats her question, bringing about a cacophony of noise from both sides of parliament. Member for Gippsland East Tim Bull is asked to leave the chamber for 30 minutes.
“I think someone is a little upset over there,” Mr Carroll says.
He says: “I think someone has realised the fresh start tour was the false start tour,” a reference to the campaign tour Ms Wilson has been making around Victoria.
After more shouting erupts, the Member for South-West Coast Roma Britnell is ejected from the chamber for an hour.
