For many aspiring pilots, the dream of flying the biggest aircraft in the sky can ultimately seem like the ultimate marker of overall success. Widebody jets can carry prestige, long-haul glamour, and, in some unique cases, highlight higher overall earning potential. Nonetheless, as our interview with a legitimate airline pilot makes clear, the reality is far more nuanced. In aviation, the “best” airplane is not always the biggest, the fastest, or the most iconic. Often, it is the one that offers the best combination of comfort, schedule, seniority, base location, and long-term quality of life. That perspective is ultimately at the heart of this story.
