International flyers leaving Melbourne and Sydney are often surprised by how long it takes to clear the northwestern corner and actually get out of Australia. So spare a thought for those who live in Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory, who travel southwards to a capital city hub and then start their trip northwards to Europe and Asia.
