Australia Expands MPs’ Travel Rules Before 2025 Election Amid Spending Scrutiny

This drew criticism as disclosures revealed high claims, such as Wells’ AFL grand finals and Formula 1 trips, prompting her self-referral to the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defended the independent oversight while seeking reform advice, as opposition figures accused the government of misleading on rule changes.

Both parties have used similar family travel entitlements totaling $1.1 million since 2022.
