Former Maribyrnong mayor Sarah Carter has been found dead in her home, with the council saying it is “shocked and saddened” by the news.
Police located the 45-year-old at a Village Way address in Maribyrnong yesterday afternoon, and have said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Carter had a 16-year career at the City of Maribyrnong, during which she was the first woman to serve as mayor three times.
“Councillor Carter was a trusted and valued colleague and her passing is an enormous loss to our community,” the council said in a statement.
