Beckstrom from Summersville, West Virginia, and Air Force Staff Sgt. Wolfe from Martinsburg died or were wounded in a targeted attack Tuesday evening near Farragut Square, hours after they were sworn in with the West Virginia National Guard.
The suspect, 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal who entered the U.S. in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome, faces first-degree murder charges that could lead to the death penalty.
