Two West Virginia Guardsmen Shot in D.C. Ambush Near White House

The attack occurred Wednesday afternoon near Farragut Square Park, where West Virginia Guardsmen were patrolling to deter crime as part of President Trump’s deployment to Washington, D.C. Authorities identified 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal as the suspect, who entered the U.S. in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome and is now in custody after being wounded.

The FBI is investigating as potential terrorism with no confirmed motive; President Trump condemned the act while leaders from both parties expressed support for the victims.
