The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation filed a native title claim in Australia’s Federal Court on November 9, 2025, encompassing 7,800 square kilometers of Greater Melbourne and surrounding regions, including Naarm and areas up to the Yarra Valley.
This claim follows Victoria’s passage of the Advancing the Treaty Process with Aboriginal Victorians Act 2025 on October 30, establishing a statewide treaty framework to address historical injustices through negotiations on health, education, and land management.
If recognised under the Native Title Act 1993, it would affirm Wurundjeri rights to Crown lands for cultural access and environmental protection, without impacting private property or infrastructure.
