Trump Renominates Astronaut Jared Isaacman as NASA Administrator After May Withdrawal

President Donald Trump renominated billionaire astronaut Jared Isaacman as NASA administrator on Monday, reversing his earlier withdrawal in May 2025 due to Isaacman’s past donations to Democrats.

Isaacman, who commanded the first all-civilian orbital mission in 2021 and led the first commercial spacewalk in 2024, received praise from Trump for his space expertise amid U.S. competition with China.

The space community, including Elon Musk and outgoing acting administrator Sean Duffy, expressed support for the nomination, which now awaits Senate confirmation to advance NASA’s Artemis lunar missions and beyond.
