Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe declared at a Melbourne pro-Palestine rally on Sunday that she would burn down Parliament House if needed to advance the Palestinian cause, despite a recent U.S.-brokered ceasefire in Gaza marking two years of the Israel-Hamas war.
Thousands attended the demonstration organized by the Palestine Action Group, with similar protests in Sydney and other Australian cities, as organizers criticised the truce for not addressing Israel’s border control and Palestinian detainees.
The statement drew backlash from lawmakers like Victorian Liberal MP David Southwick and former Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack, who called for investigations under hate speech laws and her expulsion from the Senate.

We have to stop making excuses for and giving leeway to Lidia Thorpe. She is now advocating an act of terror against the paliament of Australia. This is a crime with very serious penalties. She needs to be arrested.
The thing she will never understand is the ANZAC spirit. When push comes to shove the same type of young Australian’s that saved Australia back in the world wars will come to the fore and save Australia once again. She has absolutely no idea what she is potentially dealing with.

If the police are not around at Thorpe’s house tonight charging her with inciting terrorism, a serious crime under federal law, (specifically the Criminal Code 1995) then there is no justice in Australia
The Jewish community suffer, as do we all, while this abhorrent and clearly dangerous behaviour runs rampant from Parliamentarians, who think they are above the law
Lidia Thorpe a sitting Australian Senator has threatened to burn down the Federal Parliament Building, yet we have heard nothing from law enforcement or government officials addressing this serious threat of left-wing domestic terrorism. The building can house up to 4,000 people, including elected officials, staff, and members of the public. It is frequented by children of all ages to learn about our system of government. Despite this, a Senator who has threatened to burn it down in support of a foreign cause, often linked to terrorism, has so far faced no consequences. An average Australian would be subject to intense investigation, and we can find many examples of people being arrested for much less.
These provocations and incitements to violence from the left have increased in frequency in Australia; worse, they are coming from an elected official. We live in a two-tier system, where one system protects elites and politicians, and another turns the average Australian’s life upside down.
On a personal note, as someone who works in the building, it is alarming to know an unhinged politician with access to all parts of the building may be plotting a treasonous act of terrorism at the behest of a foreign terrorist entity. When are we going to get serious about addressing these threats?
