Former FBI Director James Comey Indicted for False Statements to Congress

A federal grand jury in Virginia indicted former FBI Director James Comey on September 25, 2025, on charges of making false statements and obstructing a congressional proceeding related to his 2020 Senate testimony about leaks in the FBI’s Russia investigation.

Prosecutors pointed to discrepancies between Comey’s statements and declassified records showing his involvement in authorizing media leaks of classified information.

The case has led to resignations within the DOJ and FBI, including Comey’s son-in-law, a senior prosecutor, amid concerns over the department’s independence under President Trump.
