V/Line has major issues Seymour Line and it was seemly covered up as the advice was vague….

Both Vibewire and the Herald Sun are reporting a major V/Line incident early today where a Sprinter service multiple unit train from Seymour to Melbourne suffered a major operational incident.

This is by no means the first time V/Line has suffered such an incident on the Network. A serious incident occurred in March of 2025 when a Swan Hill train decoupled and came apart enroute.

quoted from the news article is normally behind a paywall

Seymour and Shepparton train lines between Seymour and Southern Cross Station have been shut down due to an “operational incident”, with reports a V/Line train has “lost a carriage”.

The station master at Kilmore has reportedly confirmed the incident, claiming “the carriage detached somewhere and they have to go back and find it” and “it is a full safety incident”.

The V/Line website is stating there has been a “safety incident near Tallarook”.

It is not known if passengers were on board the lost carriage.

The website tells commuters looking to get into the city from the area to expect significant delays.

“Passengers are advised to board replacement coaches between Seymour and Craigieburn where they can then board next departing Metro services between Craigieburn and Southern Cross,” the site reads.

“Passengers travelling from Donnybrook are advised to board the 501 shuttle service between Donnybrook and Craigieburn to board next departing Metro services between Craigieburn and Southern Cross.

“We anticipate coaches to be in operation throughout the morning with an extended journey time of up to 120 minutes.”

The incident comes after a Metro train derailment in Clifton Hill in July caused commuter chaos for more than 100,000 daily passengers who use the Hurstbridge and Mernda lines.

In that incident, the train derailed and struck a number of trackside pillars, damaging around 100 metres of track.

More to come.

I wonder if a major investigation may take place?

How can 3 car rail car lose a carriage?

I understand its joined up semi permeant in sets of 3 on a VLocity rail car unlike a loco haul which is now withdrawn. Was it 3×2 VLocity ?

if so, is it possible the electronic coupler system failed that joins 2 sets together?

I understand older Sprinter Rail Car use that line too,But article that reported this did not say what type of train was involved in this incident.

TBA

Observation:

This very unheard of and very uncanny as the last time a major rollingstock incident occurred on the V/line involved a older loco haul detachment on the Swan Hill Line earlier this year Mar 2025!!!

Have operator V/Line hit critical mass?

Who should be held responsible for these seemly serious incidents with rolling stock and what should happen now?
