Infant found inside stormwater drain in Perth was two weeks old

The body of an infant found in a stormwater drain in Perth’s north was just two weeks old, it has been revealed.

Emergency services responded to reports a child had been discovered inside the drain in Alexander Heights about 1pm (3pm AEDT) yesterday.

The discovery triggered a city-wide alert to maternity hospitals.

Western Australia Premier Roger Cook described the incident as a “horrifying scenario”.

“The mother of that child must be incredibly distressed,” Cook said.

“Those workers that discovered the child’s body were confronted with the most distressing of circumstances.
