Tom Elliott has reacted to the extraordinary decision to allow a 15-year-old back out on to the streets after he was given bail 50 times and accumulated over 400 charges before they were struck.
He says the legal system isn’t concerned enough about the victims and seems to care more about the rights of offenders.
“Sadly, it is consistent with this private meeting I had with a senior legal official here in Victoria … this person told me that by and large magistrates who are responsible for the bulk of criminal law don’t want to put young offenders behind bars and that comes from the government down,” he said.
