The Boeing 747 entered service decades ago, and it fundamentally changed the world of commercial aviation when it did. With a widebody fuselage that could seat hundreds of passengers (and later variants even had a partial second deck for seating), the jet quickly became the largest and most capable airliner to ever enter service. Its inexplicably good operating economics made it an unparalleled asset for any airline. The jet became known for helping bring air travel prices down to the point that traveling long distances became easily accessible to the masses.
