Metro Tunnel express trains likely as two stations run late again

The state’s government timeline on opening the $15b Metro Tunnel is again in the spotlight.

As first revealed on 3AW’s Rumour File on March 26, construction delays on the Metro Tunnel could see trains skip two stations in order for it to open by the end of the year.

Press PLAY to hear the rumour being confirmed + Ross and Russ’ reaction

“When that rumour to air, the response from the state government was swift and (they told us) it’s not true,” Ross said on 3AW Breakfast.

  1. The build has gone on far too long well overdue and the stations were all started about the same time and the project is $billions over budget.

It is not possible for a project manager to not know the two stations being Town Hall and Library (I think it is) would not be ready in time of course the government knew about the issue.

The problem is skipping stations it not an option for some travellers as this means no CBD stations would be open on the line and that means not changing to trams to even get were you need to go. It is a real problem and will significantly reduce utility.

  2. You can’t open the metro tunnel without the city stations, otherwise you’d have pakenham/cranbourne/sunbury line users being forced to change trains at footscray and caulfield to go to the city therefore overcrowding trains which kind of defeats the projects whole purpose.

It is unlike what would have been the MURL where other stations on the loop were open as I understand it.

  3. The government says the metro tunnel is early and yet they say the stations are late which is it?
