The idea of operating an airline on a long-haul low-cost model has been relatively foreign to most airline executives in the United States. Traditionally, airlines had to choose between one of two operating models. Carriers either focused mostly on long-haul operations that catered to business travelers or short-haul flights that mostly catered to vacationers.
