Frankfurt is the financial capital of Germany, while Berlin is the political capital. The former city boasts the busiest and most connected airport in Germany, attracting many long-distance flights, including from US-based carriers. In March 2025, OAG ranked Frankfurt as the 4th busiest airport in Europe by number of seats (it had 3.5 million that month). It is also notable for being the busiest cargo airport in Europe.
