Austria has stated it is purchasing the 12 Italian Leonardo M-346FA light fighter variants of the M-346 Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT). The jet was developed by Alenia Aermacchi and was rebranded as Leonardo in 2017. According to reporting by The Aviationist, the contract is worth around $1 billion. Austria is also one of the nine operators of the Eurofighter Typhoon.
