On September 18, 1947, the Department of the Air Force was created (which now includes the United States Air Force and United States Space Force). This ended the United States Army Air Force, and the Army returned to its focus on land-based warfare – or did it? Does the Army spend more on helicopter (and some fixed-wing) procurement than vehicle procurement?
