Emergency slides are one of the most memorable pieces of emergency equipment on an airplane. Many passengers know the emergency slides from movies or television shows or even real-life emergency landings, such as US Airways Flight 1549. The emergency landing of flight 1549 was in the Hudson River, and passengers exited the aircraft aboard large slides floating in the river next to the plane.
