Melbourne-based data centre developer Quantum DC, which faces mounting opposition over its plan to build a large data centre near Adelaide, was forced to abandon a community drop-in meeting late on Thursday after it received a bomb threat.
Quantum DC, owned by property developer Alberto Tomassi, plans to build the Tungkillo Compute and Energy Hub, a 1.2-gigawatt facility designed to provide services to a giant hyperscaler such as Meta or Amazon.

The facility, located about 60 kilometres from Adelaide, would be completed in three stages by 2031.
It would have on-site gas turbines to power the data centre when there was not enough wind or solar power, and was one of many huge developments around Australia to provide artificial intelligence processing services.
Quantum DC chief executive Tomassi said the group expected to lodge a planning application with the state government by the end of the year and that the project would source about 80 per cent of its energy from renewables, with the remainder from gas.
