Quantum DC is proposing to develop the Tungkillo Compute and Energy Hub at 312 Collins Road, Tungkillo, about 55 kilometres east of Adelaide. The project combines a hyperscale data centre campus of approximately 1,200 MW, delivered in three stages, with dedicated on-site energy infrastructure: gas-fired generation (gas turbines) that runs to firm the hub’s supply when wind and solar output is low, a connection to ElectraNet’s existing 275 kV transmission lines that cross the site, and two new substations.
The campus is planned to Tier IV availability standards, with closed-loop, direct-to-chip liquid cooling and dry (air-cooled) heat rejection, and with long-term renewable supply contracted from South Australian projects.
The site covers approximately 220 hectares across five parcels, of which approximately 120 hectares will be developed; the remaining approximately 100 hectares will stay undeveloped as grazing land. The site is co-located with battery energy storage projects that are being developed separately; those projects are subject to their own approvals and do not form part of this application.
The project is proposed to be assessed through South Australia’s Essential Infrastructure/Crown assessment pathway, with the Minister for Planning as the decision maker. Stage 1 is anticipated to commence operations in 2028, with the full development completed by 2031.
