French manufacturer Alstom delivered 18 Traxx Universal locomotives to Polish operator CLIP Intermodal. The units, partly manufactured in Poland, are equipped with the Onvia Cab onboard signalling, which supports ETCS solutions.
“The locomotives were delivered under several contracts covering the manufacture of 13 vehicles approved for operation in Poland, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria and France, as well as five locomotives intended for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary”, Alstom said.
The deal for the first 13 locomotives was signed in 2024, while the one for the other five was announced last year. In addition to this delivery to CLIP Intermodal, Alstom has increased the number of Traxx Universal active in Poland with three vehicles delivered to Captrain Polska in August. These can run in the same countries as the 13 delivered to CLIP.

Two more delivered to Captrain Deutschland
Two more were also handed over to Captrain Deutschland CargoWest, the Captrain branch specialised in localised on-site logistics and heavy-load regional services in Germany. This deal also involved Railpool, which bought the locomotives from Alstom and will lease them to Captrain. “One of the two new locomotives is also equipped with a last-mile diesel engine. This allows it to travel on non-electrified sections of track and directly access sidings without additional shunting”, Captrain said.
