Autonomous wagon developer Parallel Systems secures $100m in funding

California-based rail innovator Parallel Systems has received a sign of investor confidence. It managed to raise $100 million in new funding for its autonomous self-propelled wagon technology.
The capital effectively doubles the amount of funding for Parallel’s technology. In May 2026, the company announced that it had reached the $100 million milestone since its launch.

Parallel develops autonomous, self-propelled and battery-powered wagons that travel in platoons, preventing the need for coupling, uncoupling and connecting air brake lines. Each wagon has its own brake system. Vehicles maintain bumper contact and a small air gap between containers by controlling tractive effort. Individual wagons can detach from the platoon while underway and continue to other destinations independently.

The idea is that single wagons can compete for those smaller shipments that the road sector currently transports more economically. The wagons have a range of around 800 kilometres and can transport several tonnes of freight.

Tech validation

Around a year ago, Parallel completed the first stage of a pilot project near the Port of Savannah, Georgia (USA). The pilot is still ongoing with Parallel verifying all safety controls and operating practices. The first commercial payload is “coming up very soon” the company’s CEO told TechCrunch.

The $100-million investment round was led by Advance Venture Partners, Parallel wrote on LinkedIn. New investors include Hillspire, Agility Global, and Cobalt Capital, alongside continued support from Anthos Capital, Congruent Ventures, Riot Ventures, and Collaborative Fund.

The financial injection puts Parallel in a place where they can scale their technology. Major rail operators are under contract to deploy the wagons, according to the developer, who sees the investment round as a validation of its technology.
