Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) received seven AC50-type diesel locomotives manufactured by China’s CRRC Ziyang. The two parties are now negotiating for an order for 14 additional units, ADY said.
“The new locomotives will be used for freight transport along international transport corridors,” the company added. For example, they meet the Stage IIIA environmental standards set by the International Union of Railways, which allows them to run in special emissions zones.
The units, ordered in May 2025, are intended for heavy trains. “The main air reservoir holds 2,000 liters of compressed air and includes two compressors, enabling the hauling of longer trains,” ADY specified. Moreover, the locomotives can be paired up to pull heavy convoys without the need to have staff in both. “Negotiations are currently underway for the next phase, involving the purchase of 14 additional freight locomotives,” ADY concluded.
