Train services are running normally again on the Severn Beach line in Bristol after the railway reopened this morning following 12 days of essential maintenance work.
During the line closure, engineers replaced Avonmouth level crossing (over King Road) and completed track and points maintenance, drainage improvements, and vegetation management at various locations between Bristol Temple Meads and Severn Beach.
Engineers also carried out early preparation work at Lawrence Hill station, which will help to enable the installation of a new lift – a significant accessibility improvement for all passengers.
Jason Pankhurst, senior programme manager for Network Rail’s Great Western Route, said: “We’re pleased to have reopened the Severn Beach line following 12 days of engineering work, during which our teams successfully replaced Avonmouth level crossing, carried out essential track maintenance, and completed a range of improvements across the route, including preparations for a new accessible lift at Lawrence Hill station.
“I’d like to thank passengers, residents, and our rail industry partners for their patience and understanding while this work was carried out. We know this route is vital for local communities, connecting people with work, education and leisure, and these improvements will help ensure a continued safe and reliable service for passengers who use the Severn Beach line every day.”
