On July 24, seven teenagers allegedly lured 27-year-old Sunshine Coast man Oliver Conroy using a fake dating profile, ambushed him, beat him severely with punches, kicks, and his own helmet, then dragged him nearly a kilometre behind his stolen BYD Shark 6 before running him over.

Found critically injured on Victoria Park Road, he died in Royal Brisbane Hospital on August 6.

Five boys aged 15-17 and two girls aged 14-15 face upgraded murder charges under Queensland’s ‘adult crime, adult time’ laws, with the girls marking the first such case; online reactions mix outrage over youth violence and calls for immigration reform with debates on Conroy’s possible intentions per police allegations.
