Passengers travelling between Cheltenham Spa and Lydney are being urged to check their journeys before travelling this Sunday (9 August) as Network Rail carries out essential track maintenance work to keep the railway running safely and reliably.
Engineers will be working around the clock from 11pm on Saturday 8 August until 6am on Monday 10 August to carry out the work.
As a result, buses will replace trains between Cheltenham Spa and Lydney throughout Sunday 9 August. Rail services will continue to operate between Cheltenham Spa and Bristol Parkway, Cheltenham Spa and Stroud, and between Lydney and Cardiff.
Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and check before they travel at nationalrail.co.uk or with their train operator.
The work will also require the temporary closure of Horton Road level crossing in Gloucester for the duration of the engineering work. A signed diversion route for vehicles will be in place via Barnwood Road, Eastern Avenue, Barton Street and Derby Road.
Pedestrians will be diverted via Gloucester station underpass or by using London Road and Bruton Way.
A spokesperson for Network Rail’s Great Western route said:
“We’re carrying out this essential maintenance work to help keep the railway safe and reliable for passengers and freight services.
“While there is never a good time to close the railway, undertaking this work over a weekend allows us to complete important work whilst minimising disruption.
“We’d like to thank passengers and local residents in advance for their patience and encourage anyone planning to travel on this route by rail on Sunday to check their journey before setting off.”
